Meet Rex Harris
Thanks for stopping by! My name is Rex Harris… it’s nice to meet you! The good looking guy, in the picture on the left, is my grandson Kenith. The current picture shows us enjoying a day at Lion Country Safari.
The Personal Side Of Rex Harris: As the picture indicates, I’m absolutely nuts about my grandson! I’m also pretty crazy about the beach and the beach life here in sunny Florida. My obsessions include health and fitness, Internet marketing and personal development. Interests include just about everything sports and fishing. My passion is to share my knowledge. My mission is to help people find the freedom they are looking for.
I’m a student of the Bible and the Master Key System. The more I can learn the better. I’m getting ready to start work with my new mentor Darren Little but will forever be grateful to my original mentor Val Smyth. ”Thank you, thank you, thank you Val! What I’ve learned from you continues to guide me to this day.”
I’d also like to say thank you to Pastor Jeff for instilling in me that “leaders are readers!”
How I got started in Sales and Marketing: After four years of military service and a few years in the factory I answered an ad in a local newspaper that changed the course of my life. After only five days after answering that ad I found myself standing in the living room of a total stranger. My objective? To sell the $1599 home care system that looked more like an armored car than a vacuum cleaner. As the sweat poured from my forehead I stumbled through my first real attempt to sell anything.
I’ll never forget that hot, humid summer morning in Middleville, Michigan. Not only were the environmental conditions less than favorable, my stage was also a disaster waiting to happen. We’d been warned, during training, that the Kirby could easily destroy an old shag carpet and to avoid presenting its’ power there. If the boiling heat and no air conditioning (no, not even a fan) weren’t enough, wouldn’t you know the whole house was carpeted in shag. I lasted about 45 minutes in that house when I decided that being a Kirby salesman just wan’t for me.
If someone had told me I’d be peddling $1500 vacuum cleaners door to door, by the time I was 25 years old, I would have thought they were crazy. Nonetheless, that’s where I found myself. Even after the embarrassment of my first demo, I continued on. Why? I’m not sure to be completely honest but it just wasn’t in me to go down without a fight.
Becoming a Kirby salesman was one of the biggest challenges I’d ever faced. After several failed attempts at selling the Kirby, the light came one when I heard the motto “make a friend, make a sale.” It didn’t take me long to realize that the key to selling these expensive dirt suckers wasn’t its’ power. It wasn’t its’ ability to clean better than any other machine I put it up against. It wasn’t the attachments, the tech drive or the hose made from Lexan (the same plastic used on the space shuttle). The key to selling the Kirby was to sell ME, first! Once I started selling ME everything changed. It didn’t take long before, despite everything being stacked against it, I made my first sale… and walked out my new customers house with $350 commission for about 3 hours work.
There was something very liberating in the realization that I was in charge of my destiny. All I had to do was make friends with my potential customer and show incredible value. If I was successful, I would earn more for two hours worth of work than I could earn in 1 week packaging pills at the local factory.
How Rex Harris got started as an Internet marketer: My interest in being my own boss translated to the Internet in the fall of 1999. After answering, yet again, another ad in a local paper, I embarked on a mission to help people repair their lives and credit by selling them computers… on credit. I’ll give you about three seconds to figure out how long that lasted. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but here’s what I learned about selling to people who don’t pay their bills… THEY DON’T PAY THEIR BILLS! We made some quick money at the start but the company collapsed in January of 2000 because, you guessed it, people weren’t paying for their computer systems.
After the failure of the first business I spent a couple of years exploring and trying different things. It wasn’t until June of 2001 that things started to click. After struggling to come up with an idea that would generate cash flow, I teamed up with a partner to launch BizABlast Professional Marketing Services. Unfortunately, we were an overnight sensation. I say unfortunately because I was not prepared for the success and let everything I made slip through my fingers. After four and a half years we parted ways. At that time I swore off Internet marketing and decided to go back to work.
About a month later I was back online looking for new ways to make money. The industry was changing but I refused. I was convinced I could burn rocks and get blood from Turnips. It didn’t take long to realize that I was wrong and it was time to grow up and seek the advice of someone who knew better than me.
