Here’s a quick reference guide concerning search engine marketing for beginners. Generating traffic from the major search engines isn’t quite as complicated as it may appear. With a self hosted WordPress blog and a few key plug ins you can begin to receive traffic from the search engines in a very short period of time.

The basic building blocks of search engine optimization are keywords and phrases, back links and content. When these building blocks are combined with the right set up (foundation), you’re in business.

When it comes to search engine marketing for beginners, my recommendation is to learn from a someone who knows it versus trying to learn it on your own. Learning from books, blogs and scattered content online will most likely lead to confusion and frustration. Search engine optimization is certainly a “walk before you run and run before you fly” skill, but the right teacher can show you how to get traffic and results even while you’re in the walking stage.

The objective, when it comes to search engine marketing, is to be able to reach your target market through the front pages of the major search engines. To do that, key elements must be in place. Once the key elements are in place (the right keywords for example) then you can begin creating back links and push your blog posts and pages higher in the search engine listings.

All new Internet marketers should take the time to learn search engine marketing for beginners. Not only will it save you a ton of money in marketing and advertising costs, it increases your value as an Internet marketer. The knowledge of SEO is incredibly valuable. People will pay you top dollar for your advice and skills once they have developed.

Here are a handful of pointers for new and upcoming bloggers and search engine marketers that will help you…

  • When creating a blog post try to incorporate the keyword or phrase you’d like to optimize for in your title, the sentence of the blog post, and the last line of your blog post.  The search engine crawlers look for that.  You will also want to incorporate your keyword or phrase at least three other times within your blog post.  This builds keyword density.  This is vital when it comes to understanding search engine marketing for beginners.
  • Include and image with an ALT tag in every blog post.  Set your ALT tag to your keyword.  Name the image after your keyword as well.  This will also increase keyword density.
  • Use header tags.  If you scroll the bottom of this post you’ll see three instances of the long tail keyword I’m using to optimize this blog post.

Plugins like SEO Pressor, for example. allow you to meet all of the above criteria almost effortlessly.  All In One SEO is also another recommended plug in.  You’ll also want to set up Google Analytics as well.  This can also be done with a plug in.

It might seem like rocket science but once you understand the basics it’s not near a difficult as it seems.  If you’re someone who likes an interesting challenge then learning SEO, the right way, will be right up your alley.
